Hexie Play Time

Yesterday was a rostered day off from work which worked in wonderfully with being able to drive over to corowa to collect my new glasses.  I finally got around to having another eye test the other week and just need some new ones for close up work - a smaller lens for when I'm sewing or crocheting. It's about a 35min drive from here and just over the Murray River into NSW.  I took some photos on the way back of the old bridge we go over - it has lights as its only one way and with the bend you can't see if there is traffic over the other side........

So with new glasses in hand I decided to sit down and work on some more hexie love ..... and work out which fabrics from my stash will become the joining hexies .....

I've decided on using the calico, the purple check and a lovely pale green patterned piece .........

see it starting to take shape...... although it still needs a good press in these photos ....

I'm still debating if I'll make some half hexies to join to the centre piece or if I'll overlap the hexies on to the top of it ...... This blogging tablecloth is definitely a work in progress as I only have a rough idea in my mind how it will look once sitting there with cups of tea and cake on top of it !  And finally I can link this post to Anthea's EPP which is the main rush job for getting this post out this morning before work lol ......

Its all about the Hexies

Firstly thankyou for all the lovely compliments about the blogging tablecloth that is slowly taking shape thanks to all the lovely signature hexies various ladies have sent.  For those of you who still want to make a hexie to send me I thought it would be easier to put the details here to save having to go back through older posts to get the details.......
The finished hexie size is 2.5inches ( that is 2.5 in along each finished hexie side).  They will need to be done on white, cream, calico, pale lemon or pale yellow fabric, but feel free to embroider them in whatever colour you wish.  Pop your name, blogname, town or country you come from (like you can see in the previous post) ....... I'm so happy to have blogging and snail mail friends sharing in this tablecloth.

Meantime I've been busy getting to work on making some flowers with 2 more of the signature blocks that arrived.  I'm working on them in the order they arrived here, so next is the one I received from Anthea  of Hibiscus Stitches- who also happens to be hosting EPP!  The chook fabric just seemed to work so well with the embroidery thread used. For those wondering what EPP is - English Paper Piecing - you have shapes cut from paper, you then tack material around the paper to form the shape  these shapes get sewn together after which the papers get pulled out. (that's it in a nutshell)

And then I was able to get started on the signature hexie from Sheryl. from Sewing After Seven.  I just love the embroidered flower sitting in the S.  I spent lots of time changing my mind about which fabrics I was going to use, but eventually ended up with these......... I still have a bit of stitching to finish on it yet
It's nice to be getting my handstitching mojo back after such a very long break. Wishing I was home this week to be able to stitch and sew a few more things that need doing!  Anyhow I'll leave with this photo of Cliffy - the lorikeet who our son got as a baby when he was around 15 - he's the one that is now married with 3 children living in Townsville - which makes Cliff around 15yrs old!  It's hard to tell he's a lorikeet with all the feathers he continues to pull out and he just won't
leave his small cage, except when I have it against the bigger cockatoo cage out on the lawn so he can play in the grass and dirt without being attacked by other birds ..... yes, well apparently on Sunday arvo he tunnelled his way out without us knowing until we drove in after a quick pick up to find Cliffy sitting at the front door waiting to be taken inside - after all it was 5 oclock - the time he usually calls out to be brought inside.  He got so excited when he saw me bringing his cage up from the garden and jumped straight inside with a "goodnight cliffy" to us!!!! Gotta love it!!

Hexies and a Name!

Finally I've found a name that sits just right for my little crafting cabin!  It's taken quite a long
while ........... So, welcome to ............." The Beehive"!  What do you think??  When I was thinking of  various names, it occurred to me I like to do numerous types of craft in that little space .....  At times it is overflowing with creativity  ............  I'm also very, very keen for my little cabin (aka: Beehive or "The Hive"), to look cute and have flowers  which will also attract the small birds, and the bees for pollinating the "kitchen" garden that will be growing around it!   That's when it occurred to me that I'm usually busy as a bee ....... Therefore, having a beehive to Bee Busy crafting in, creating Sweetness galore ...... it just  makes perfect sense to me!!!
Sew...... Meantime  I've been busy getting some of the large hexies made up for the table cloth I'm making that will go onto the table in " the Bee Hive"!  And finally, I've got a Hexie post in time to link up with Anthea who host the EPP.   I'm so happy that some of you have decided to answer my call for some signature blocks which will become the centres of some of the flowers.

I'm also thrilled that even those who were a bit u sure of making the finished Hexie, still made an embroidered centre and sent that with enough fabric surrounding that I'll be able to make them into Hexies!  I've been working on a few different colours to surround the signature blocks that have already arrived...... From France, Spain, USA, and a couple from other areas of Australia.  the centre of the cloth has my blog name, and the plan is to surround it with flowers - each with a centre that is a signature Hexie from friends who read my blog.  If you'd like to make a signature Hexie for me, please send me an email or leave a comment  or read this post about it here.  For more info about the signature hexies go here.
FNSI was postponed last week, and instead a virtual sew in is being hosted by Wendy over the Easter weekend ......... Can't wait to check out all the blogs to see what everyone is doing..... I'll be busy with all sorts of things going on in and around the Hive!

Time for some homemade pumpkin scones and a cuppa!

Take care xo
