Saturday Sewing

http://chookyblue.blogspot.com.au/Chookyblue is having a virtual sewing party this weekend, and well that just seemed to be the perfect excuse for me to get out into my little cabin for some sewing........ eventually ........ you know...... Well I did manage to get out there not long after lunch time lol

Scruffy decided to be my buddy and spent the afternoon in the little cabin with me........ he found the nice comfy place lol
See the lovely floor mat my friend Lyn sent me for my birthday, especially for the cabin! I just love it.  An on the back of the lounge you can see the hangings that are waiting to go up on the wall, all made by others for various things over the past few years.

I managed to get these 2 little mice pincushions made up and another is part way there.  Can't wait to get back out to the cabin tomorrow for some more sewing.  See you all then.........

A Stripey Dance......

Hooray, I just finished the CAL - The Stripey Afghan......... so full of lots of new stitches, that unfortunately play havoc with the edges of blanket....... I ended up deciding that a lap afghan if just fine and dandy!!  It's not one I would do again, although I did enjoy learning new stitches and I will use those stitches in lots of ongoing projects........ just not all in the same afghan!

During the process, which is ongoing all this year on  one of the Ravelry groups devoted to afghans,   I found out about this wonderful little book........... and after a peek inside via the online pages.............. well, its one I will use a lot, so picked it up :)    and loving it!!

So now its back to focusing on the knitting needles which have my woollmeiser hitchhiker scarf halfway in the making

And the little mouse will be a pincushion when she's finished  ..... I thought I'd use up a scrap of fur fabric  I've had sitting here for a bit waiting.......
Now I had planned to finish this post last night, but alas the power and the internet were both out..... we used to get power outs a lot more, so we are pretty used to them around here, so the candles are always kept in the same spot ready to go when needed......... does look like it could be time to get a couple more though!

Birthday and Cabin Celebrations

During this past week have had good reason for celebrations around the cottage. Mothers Day last Sunday was a lovely day and made even better when Pete decided to lay pavers around the front of the house and around the cabin..... he ended up getting some help when Stace and John turned up!   Then early in  the week we got the results from follow up biopsies for my Hubbie was diagnosed with prostate cancer in mid February - seems the aggressive tumor has been downgraded.  Thankyou to all those who have had him in prayer.  No treatment or surgery at this stage, just a "Watch and Wait" which means follow up blood tests in 6 months time to keep a check on things.

On Friday I got to celebrate my birthday with a trip to the cinema with my daughter to see "The Other Woman" - hilarious!  We had chinese takeaway for a dinner treat and dear daughter had bought an ice cream cake we all enjoyed.  I thought I was well spoilt when a delivery van pulled up and unloaded a lovely chest freezer (something I really need around here as the freezer with the drawers just doesn't hold all I need it to when we harvest all our produce).  The next day Pete asked if I'd bothered to look inside - well I thought he meant had I read the booklet yet, but apparently I had missed the little white package which held a lovely pair of earings from the jewellers!!!

Saturday afternoon, I had a few friends over to celebrate the cabin being finished - what better way to celebrate than with a coffee and craft afternoon!  It was lovely and we all enjoyed it!  I think there may have to be more of these.

This afternoon I moved my sewing machines out there and started on some sewing for swap I've joined up for....... I do think its coming out a little more life like than I had hoped, so sure hope it doesn't scare my poor swap partner lol........

Rainy Saturdays

I woke to rain this morning, I love the sound of rain on the roof.  As it turned out it rained off and on all day with lower temps making it quite chilly outside.  After a quick trip to town this morning for groceries and a couple of errands I was pleased to get back home, stoke up the fire and make sure the kettle was sitting atop.  We are lucky to have a wood combustion heater that has a top on which I can pop the kettles of water on, and also, like I did today...... popped on a baking dish filled with lamb chops and lots of veg, covered with alfoil and away it cooked!
I did some extra work on my knitted hitchhiker scarf, and also managed another few rows of the stripey crocheted  afghan that will live in the little cabin.
Speaking of the little cabin........ it has the vinyl flooring down (an end of roll piece that was just the right size and less than half price since they wanted to get rid of it), and we picked up a great little sofa that opens up into a bed for visitors.  We priced new ones early in the week (after Pete had finished at the hospital with this last lot of biopsies), and found most places were asking between $800 - $1000!!  We decided to have a look at a second hand furniture shop which had the same prices as the new stuff, and then on an off chance popped into the Opp Shop....... and found this great little sofa that was in such fantastic condition.  Pete went back the next day to collect it, and discovered it was just $50!!!  And look how well it suits!  I can't believe how well everything has blended in together...... even the little stool which I bought from the market ages ago when we only had the frame up, so had it stored away.

So now I'm just in the process of getting things into place.  It will all be ready in time for my birthday this coming Friday, and I'm hoping to have a little craft cabin christening to celebrate.
I feel so blessed to have this little space that I will be able to disappear into, and a space that we can have visitors stay overnight in.
Before I go, I also wanted to say Thankyou to Deanna, a wonderful friend from overseas who sent me this lovely dishcloth .....

Wishing all the mums and grandmothers a wonderful Mothers Day tomorrow.........
Hugs   Sharm xo
